How to get to Madrid
By plane
Barajas, the airport of Madrid, is located at 12 km from the city centre. It is one of the most important International airports and many companies, including low cost, have direct flights to this airport. There are four terminals. Here are the different possibilities to get to the centre.
- Underground (Line 8): in service from 6.00 am to 1.30 am. The metro station is situated inside the airport, near Terminal 2. The new terminal (4) is linked to the underground station by the bus 201, run by EMT company. The tickets to go to the airport costs 2€ and the trip lasts about 12 minutes.
- Bus: every 15 minutes, the bus n°89 leaves for Plaza de Colón, while bus n°11 takes to Canillejas station. The trip lasts about 30 minutes and costs 2.40€
- Taxi: it may takes from 20 to 40 minutes to get to the city, according to the traffic. It will cost you about 25€
By train
The rail network is run by RENFE. The stations which you must take into consideration if you arrive in Madrid by train are two and well connected by the underground network: Chamartín station (North) and Atocha station (South).
By car
A1 route connects Madrid to Basque region. A4 route connects Madrid to Andalausia. NII France to Madrid, while NV links Madrid to Portugal.
Underground
Undoubtedly the underground is the cheapest, quickest and most comfortable way to go around in Madrid. There are 12 lines which reach every corner of the city. Is it opened from 6 am to 1.30 am and the cost a single ticket is 1€. About ten stations offer connections with the city railway network which reaches the outskirts of the town. These trains, called trenes de cercanías are run by RENFE.
Autobus
The bus network of Madrid is run by EMT. It allows you to reach all the zones of the town, including those which are not covered by the underground network. The service is available from 6 am to 23 pm. There are buses also during the night but with less frequency. The price of the ticket for a single journey is 1€.
Taxi
Taxi cars are all white with a red line. A green light positioned on the roof indicated if he taxi is free. These are fix fees; 1. 75€ to get on, 0,82€ for each kilometre in zone A (city centre). From 10pm to 6.00 starts the night fee which established 95€ /km. Here are useful numbers to call a taxi:
